INVITATION
9 November 2005

JOIN US IN A “GRANDMOTHERS’” GROUP TO STOP THE WAR!

A couple of weeks ago, a Manhattan group named Grandmothers Against the War tried to enter a recruiting station and sign up for the military. Able-bodied, wheelchair- and walker-bound, they found that the doors of the recruiting station were locked to prevent their entry. Eventually the police hustled the women into paddy wagons—but they made it into the NY Times!

This is an invitation for you, regardless of gender, age, parental or grandparental status to join a SF/East Bay chapter of Grandmothers for Peace or, if the group prefers, Grandmothers Against the War. According to the organizer for Grandmothers for Peace International, "Gender doesn't count, nor does age! Also, there is no requirement for 'biology' because a ‘grandmother' is a concept of love, all embracing."

Now, we’re not asking for folks to be arrested. There are innumerable actions and activities in which a Grandmothers' group could be involved, and we, as a group, would make those decisions along with determining other issues, such as title and structure for the group, etc.

The international organization, Grandmothers for Peace, has East Bay affiliates in Hayward and Rossmoor. We've contacted the organizers/coordinators of those groups, all of whom would warmly welcome a viable SF/East Bay affiliate.

What's next: an organizing meeting at [ date and location of organizing meeting ].

We still believe in the adage "Don't mourn! Organize!" We hope you, and others you pass this message on to, agree!
